Cream Dream – Cool, Sumptuous and Decadent – Mascarpone Ice Creams

July 24, 2012 by marianne

These remain my favorite ice cream glasses - given to me by my friend Barbara many moons ago! My earliest ice cream memories - Circa 1960s -  involve riding my bicycle down to the "corner store" and ingesting copious amounts of Breyer's Strawberry on sugar cones on a swirling counter stool that I could barely hoist myself up onto.   It was a mixed blessing having this store so close to home - I indulged in ridiculous amounts of penny candy, … [Read more...]

The Beautiful and the Simple

July 22, 2012 by marianne

This is simple deliciousness!  Not to blow the horn of the Italians again and again, but aren't they the masters of the simply delicious?   I am open to more complex recipes and flavor combinations, but often find the fewer the fresh and simply adorned ingredients, the better.   This, to me is a perfect example. I just love what a perfectly ripe white peach adds to this simplest of salads - the sunniest of overtones!   I have to say that … [Read more...]

Peach Puree, Bellinis and Harry’s Bar (sigh)

July 20, 2012 by marianne

Amore!!!!!!!!   Not sure if you can see this, but it's the real deal!  Click on the picture! Yesterday I was pureeing two white peaches to make the recipe shown below.  My sister-in-law and her husband were coming to visit on their way to a conference.  When she called on their way from the airport she said they hadn't had lunch.  It was well after 2:00.  So, I threw this in the oven.  At least I could offer them a piece of this and … [Read more...]

Folly – Summer is as Summer Does

July 19, 2012 by marianne

I am a great one for waiting for the "perfect" day of weather, no matter what the season.  I realize this is "follysome" -ok, that is not a word... but it should be as it describes me perfectly.  The definition is not flattering by the way. I don't know where the phrase "noun is as noun does" comes from but I guess it to mean whatever the "thing" does is exactly what it "is".....  sorry, are you following this?   My mind works in mysterious … [Read more...]

July 18, 2012 by marianne

Friends Market - Annual Display!   Orleans MA A lot on my mind today....... (did i have too much caffeine this morning??????) Ok, so the 4th of July was a couple of weeks ago -- I am a day late and ....... but, I just had to post this picture - an image I look forward to every July.  I know it's kind of corny, but, well, so I guess i am a sucker for corny nostalgia. Guilty.  And, my 2 week old bone-to-pick is, Hello????? New York … [Read more...]

And this is Crazy……For Peaches

July 17, 2012 by marianne

I think the shading on this peach is amazing! I don't know about you, but I can't get the song, "Call Me Maybe" out of my head.  One of the recurring lines is "And, this is Crazy" - right before "But here's my number, So call me, maybe?".  I text this to my kids every once in awhile - just to let them know I'm still around and not stuck in the "stone age" as Ryan loves to say.  I usually get the reply, "MOM - what's wrong with you?"  I … [Read more...]

It’s a Dog’s Life on Nantucket

July 14, 2012 by marianne

Yesterday, my daughter, Christin and I flew over to Nantucket for the day.  We had a lovely time together which included a fabulous lunch at Straight Wharf Restaurant.  The Gazpacho and Swordfish Tacos were really delicious.  I could eat this lunch over and over again - this is a no-brainer.   The Gazpacho included some lovely, small red grape halves, , a nice little bite of heat, and was the cool and refreshing treat we hoped for. A great … [Read more...]

All in a Cape Cod Day…….

July 12, 2012 by marianne

Loving all the shades of Cape Cod blue! If there is any reason to come out to the Cape, it is to enjoy a casual, but top notch dinner in Wellfleet at Mac's Shack.  We have been going to this place for over 30 years - it was The Lobster Hut before and a few year's back was re-opened by Mac as Mac's Shack.  Don't let the outside drive-up impression fool you. This is now my favorite place to go for dinner anywhere on the Cape.  As with the … [Read more...]

I Beg to Differ; Getting Ready for 4th!!!!!

July 3, 2012 by marianne

Now that's a Hydrangea!  This plant is taller than me - 5', and is at least as wide.  I have two, side by side that are just gorgeous - just wish it would cool off a little - these are in full sun and so the flowers tire earlier in the season than they could. Last Wednesday's NYT featured a beautiful presentation about Melissa Clark's Rose-Scented Tart.  I have to say, I loved this recipe and while I was in the City at the New York Cake Co. … [Read more...]
